Getting your first job or moving from one job to another, as well as losing your job, are major events in your life. At such times, you may need information to help guide you through the process and to help you make the right choices.

Whether you are a jobseeker looking for employment, changing jobs, facing redundancy or simply want to know more about your rights, there is a wide range of information relating to employment.

Your rights under the law

Your rights as an employee are protected by law in Ireland. There are various Acts relating to updating employment law. You need to know about your employment rights and conditions. You can find out about enforcing your rights and the role of the Rights Commissioner Service and the Employment Appeals Tribunal. There is specific legislation exists to protect your human rights and ensure equality at work. You can find out about your rights in the event of bullying, harassment or victimisation.

If you are starting work

When you start work you need to know about your Personal Public Service Number, contracts of employment, social insurance in Ireland and tax when starting work. There is employment legislation to protect young people at work.

Pay and employment

You should find out about the minimum rate of pay in Ireland, what information is in your pay slip and how your tax is calculated. There are supports for low income earners and you need to know about pensions.

Changing jobs
