Warmer Homes Scheme

Introduction

The Warmer Homes Scheme aims to improve the energy efficiency and warmth of homes owned by people on low incomes. It is operated by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), Ireland's national energy agency, and is available nationwide.

Under the national upgrade programme called 'Better Energy', the Warmer Homes Scheme, the Home Energy Saving Scheme and the Greener Homes Scheme are being merged into the Better Energy Homes Scheme.

Type of work funded

The work funded under the Warmer Homes Scheme includes:

  • Attic insulation
  • Draught-proofing
  • Lagging jackets
  • Energy-efficient lighting (CFL bulbs)
  • Cavity wall insulation
  • Provision of energy advice.

The work is carried out by by a panel of non-profit community-based organisations (CBOs) and private contractors, appointed by SEAI.

Rules

You can access the Warmer Homes Scheme if:

  • You are an owner-occupier and
  • Your home was built before 2002 and
  • You get a Fuel Allowance under the National Fuel Scheme

The eligibility criteria are being revised at present.

Rates

There is no charge for work done under the Warmer Homes Scheme.

Eligible homes may also be identified locally by networks or groups made up from both the statutory and voluntary sectors.
