Work and training in prisons

Information

While someone is in prison, there is a wide range of work and training activities made available to them. They are given the opportunity to develop skills in prison that will help them to seek and obtain work when they are released.

Many of the activities are chosen to help provide products and services for the prisons.

Specialist industrial training is provided at a number of prisons. Courses in welding, machining, general engineering, electronics, introduction to industry, catering, printing and construction are provided to prepare for release back into the community.

Further information is available on the Prison Service website.
